"Committed to Eye Care with Confidence"

Blepharitis is a very common condition, caused by inflammation of the eyelid margins. This is most commonly due to blocked oil glands within the eyelids and overgrowth of the skin’s natural bacteria along the lashes.

Symptoms of blepharitis include itchiness, grittiness, foreign body sensation, sensitivity to light, excessive tears or crusty/sticky eyelashes. it is also associated with dry eye.

Treatment involves eliminating the infection usually with antibiotic ointment or oral antibiotics. Ongoing care involves eyelid massage, warm eye lid compresses, and tear supplementation with lubricants. When symptoms occur contact lenses should not be worn, and any eye irritants such as eye makeup should be discontinued until symptoms improve.
